Glacier National Park
An interesting place. So many people I have met say it is their favorite park. I am glad I went, but it is the first national park I have been to that I have no desire to return. If you like mountains above tree try the Rockies. In the Rockies, you can find places to can breathe without seeing another person. I know the season is short. There is only one road, and it cannot handle the traffic. I felt like I was herded cattle in my car.
Traveling off the beaten path, I was rarely traveling on the interstate. But I found new meaning to road construction. The sign read “construction next 42 miles.” Sort of looked like a gravel road to me. And then I was not sure this was the Montana Highway 89 in Montana. First time I had to follow a pilot truck through construction. I took a stone chip on each road which spread a few days later when the car got hot. New windshield required.
If you think you are going to use your phone as a GPS out west when you are not on an interstate, think again. Above is my modern day GPS – old fashioned atlas and printed directions from AAA aka trip ticket created on line. But of course, being female, one is allowed to change one’s mind as often as they change nail color so you can see change in route in the margins. In my entire trip it only rained during the day once. It was on a long drive, but there is beauty in the rain.
On the way, I stayed a Missoula Montana KOA. There were bunnies everywhere. And definitely willing to make themselves home in your campsite.
The pictures depict the parking lot at 0730 when the park doesn’t open until 0900. People already beginning to circle for a parking space. Then inside when the visitor center opens. I dare you to turn around and not bump into someone. And at the end of my day, cars backed up for miles still trying to cross the “Go to the Sun Road”. These are the examples that for me it is a place of no return. Everyone that knows me knows how much I love crowds.
Although, it was hard to find a place to park and take pictures, the test part of Glacier was the flowers. The pretty white flower is called “bear grass”.
The sunrises in over the mountains in St. Mary, Montana.
I was never so happy to get out of a park!!!!
