Journey to Bay City for ‘Mesmerica’
In searching the internet for a day journey, I stumbled across a concert in a planetarium. Novel concept for me. The concert was called Mesmerica by James Hood. Knowing nothing about the musician, a quick click over to YouTube allowed a sample of the music and the video. He plays an instrument called a hang and he has 3D videos displayed across the dome of the planetarium. So, I bought a ticket and set out on the journey. Down the street from the hotel was a bell tower so I had to go take pictures. The bell tower is actually the city hall.
If you get a chance to go see Mesmerica, do not hesitate. The shows sell out fast and there is a reason. The concert is simply amazing – unfortunately, no photos allowed. Below are photos of the planetarium, the album cover and two photos taken inside before the show started.
Prior to entering the show, I wanted to see if I had arrived in a timely fashion. So I decided to use the human sundial. However, it was not working. I submitted a work order. But this is Michigan in the winter. My guess it is rarely in working order during the winter months.
After the show, I called my friend James – he grew up in Bay City – so a great source to ask for a place to eat. He gave me a couple of options. I opted for the casual burger at Barney’s bar. On the way to Barney’s, I stumbled across Christmas lights. Look again I was wrong!!! Is decorating for St. Patty’s day. Is this going catch on and become a trend that will surpass the decorations of Halloween and Christmas?
You know I am a strong believer in Karma – “Do Good.” Since I went to Barney’s, I had to order the “Original Barney Melt.” Similar to the motto of when in “Rome do as the Romans do”. It is the only way to get the flavor of the local culture. When my burger arrived a young man sitting next to me, said, “You ordered a Barney Melt? That is my favorite.” So I gave him half. He ate went to leave the waitress a tip. He had no money but recalled he bought a Keno ticket. He took it to the machine and found out he won $150 and bought my burger. He told me he was having a real bad day until I did something nice for him. Karma – shared a burger, mine became free and it made someone’s day.
The ride home included a tour through Saginaw. And there was a Castle in Saginaw.
Not on the agenda, in the distance I saw a building with the word “Bean” at the the top. Thus, a detour was mandatory. The detour took me to a place where I think I found the Easter Bunny’s Jelly Bean Factory.
In case, there is any doubt, the magnet in my truck attacks the deer to me just as in any of my vehicles. Even in the neighborhoods of downtown Saginaw. After they made me hit the breaks after they crossed in front of me, they paused for a photo with the “How dare you use our road look.”
And the ride home was safe.
